⭐ 4.6 / 5.0
The Arabahmet Quarter is the most atmospheric and well-preserved Ottoman-era neighbourhood in Nicosia, located in the northwestern part of the walled city. Named after Arab Ahmet Pasha, an Ottoman commander, the quarter features narrow cobbled streets lined with beautifully restored Ottoman mansions, some converted into boutique guesthouses, restaurants, and cultural spaces. The neighbourhood offers a genuine glimpse into the architectural heritage of Ottoman Cyprus.

Walking through the quarter reveals ornate doorways, projecting wooden balconies (cumba), and hidden courtyards behind high stone walls. The Arabahmet Mosque, with its distinctive minaret, anchors the neighbourhood. Several of the restored buildings now house art galleries and workshops. The quarter is particularly atmospheric in the evening when soft lighting illuminates the stone facades, and it has become a popular destination for cultural tourism.
