The Vouni Palace archaeological site occupies one of the most spectacular hilltop locations in North Cyprus, perched 250 metres above the Mediterranean coast west of Güzelyurt. While the palace ruins themselves — dating from the 5th century BC — are modest in scale, the panoramic view from the summit is simply breathtaking, encompassing the coastline, the Güzelyurt plain, and the distant Troodos mountains. The palace was likely built by a pro-Persian king to watch over the nearby city of Soli.
The site includes the remains of the palace complex, a small temple of Athena, and cisterns cut into the rock. Archaeological finds from Vouni, including a celebrated treasure of gold and silver objects, are housed in museums in southern Nicosia. The combination of ancient history and natural beauty makes Vouni one of the most rewarding short excursions in western North Cyprus, particularly at sunset.
