Lapta (Lapithos)

Lapta (Lapithos)

📍 Lapta

Lapta (ancient Lapithos) is one of the most beautiful villages in North Cyprus, cascading down the northern slopes of the Kyrenia mountains to the Mediterranean coast. The village has a history stretching back over 8,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements on the island. Abundant natural springs feed terraced gardens of citrus, olive, and carob trees, creating a lush green setting that contrasts dramatically with the arid landscapes elsewhere on the island.

The upper village retains its traditional Ottoman-era character with stone houses, narrow lanes, and several historic mosques and churches. Lower Lapta has developed into a cosmopolitan coastal community with restaurants, shops, and residential properties. The village is particularly beautiful in spring when the orchards blossom and the gardens are at their most colourful. Walking the old streets and sampling local cuisine at village restaurants are the primary activities.

Key facts: One of oldest settlements in Cyprus (8,000+ years) · Mountain-to-coast village · Abundant natural springs · Lush citrus and olive groves · Ottoman-era upper village · Restaurants and cafés · Beautiful spring season
