The Karpaz National Park encompasses the remote northeastern tip of the Karpaz Peninsula, protecting one of the last truly wild landscapes in the eastern Mediterranean. The park covers approximately 35 square kilometres of rugged coastline, sand dunes, scrubland, and Mediterranean forest. It is home to the famous Karpaz wild donkeys, a population of around 700 animals that roam freely across the peninsula.
The park's coastline includes some of the finest beaches in Cyprus, including Golden Beach (Nangomi) and Ronnas Bay, both important turtle nesting sites. Birdwatchers can spot migrating species including flamingos, rollers, and bee-eaters. The landscape is dotted with small Byzantine chapels and ancient ruins. Reaching the park requires a drive along the peninsula road, but the journey through increasingly wild scenery is part of the experience. Basic accommodation is available at Golden Beach.
