The Kyrenia Mountains Trail is the premier long-distance hiking route in North Cyprus, stretching approximately 230 kilometres along the spine of the Kyrenia (Besparmak) mountain range from Kantara Castle in the east to the Koruçam Burnu (Cape Kormakitis) in the west. Officially waymarked and maintained, the trail passes through pine forests, over dramatic ridges, past all three Crusader castles, and through traditional villages.
The trail can be walked in sections of varying difficulty, from easy valley walks to challenging ridge scrambles. Popular day-hike sections include St. Hilarion to Buffavento, the Alevkaya herb garden area, and the Besparmak summit trail. The route offers outstanding views throughout and passes through some of the most biodiverse habitats on the island, home to endemic orchids, cyclamen, and birdlife.
